Going Out Alone

It’s always tough to get people to understand why I like to venture out alone. This is something I try to do at least 3 times per month and usually achieve at least once, and it is beyond crucial for my sanity.

Back in college, when I was going through friend group shakeups and feeling disillusioned by the people I thought I knew, I went out on a whim to a local drum n bass night. I wasn’t into this type of music (yet) but it was the only thing going on that night that I was aware of. Still living with my parents at that point, I just needed a place to get out and be on my own so much that my desire to just go outweighed my terror at not knowing anyone there.

Day Party Outdoors the Right Way

Summer is definitely in full swing by now, and in many Northern US cities, so are the day parties. They always seem like such a great idea when you buy your ticket, but for some, it ends up leading to a weekend full of “how did I think this was a good idea?” moments.

While I absolutely do not claim to be the day party expert, I’ve definitely figured out my own best practices for having a good time without feeling like hell the next day(s).

My experience with the WoolPRO Scout 1/4 Zip (And a 30% discount for you!)

A couple of weeks ago, WoolPRO sent me a couple of their products in exchange for my honest review. WoolPRO boasts a collection of 100% merino wool base layers suitable for all ages. They sent my way a women’s Scout 1/4 zip, as well as a women’s Skylark.

Last weekend, I decided to take my newly adopted pup, Sabbie, to the beach for the first time. It was a windy and chilly day, so I figured it would be a perfect time to test out one of the long sleeves from WoolPRO.

Keeping up with my goals

I’ve definitely taken a break from here for the past month or so.

And no, it wasn’t because of feeling guilty for giving up on the goals I’d set for myself earlier. If anything, it was to focus on those goals more. Taking more trips to the rock gym leaves less time for thinking about posting. Hiking on the weekends means less time in front of my computer. (Not that I’m complaining!)

It really is true that there is a sort of domino effect when it comes to making changes. In my case, trying to shop less lead to wanting to save more money, which lead to eating healthier, which lead to being more active, which lead to an overhaul of my weekly routines.

I know it’s about to be real wintery and cold up in here (New England…) and usually around this time of year is when I get more lax about my choices. But maybe I can beat the resolution rush this year and continue moving toward my fitness and financial goals through the whole holiday season! After all, more days off means more time to be outside, right?

Cosmos, maaaaan!

About a year and a half ago, I was introduced to Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey right before it was about to start airing. The first episode blew my mind. The next few months were spent getting all of my errands out of the way and dinner cooked on Sundays in time to turn the TV on and learn about the universe.cosmos-1

It always baffled me how few people at work had heard of, let alone watched, Cosmos. And when I told them about it, I was stunned still to see their complete lack of reaction.

Testing my Willpower

This week has been rough.

Eating

food-salad-healthy-lunch-large

I’m not usually one to watch what I eat but lately it’s been at the forefront of my mind more and more. After having a delicious thanksgiving-style salad earlier in the week (involving dried cranberries, grilled turkey, butternut squash and walnuts) the rest of the week hasn’t been as successful. There were IPAs involved (my weakness!) and definitely some beef chili.
